Terms and booking conditions
These apply to walks booked with Père Lachaise Walks. They do not, and cannot, apply to entry to the cemetery itself, which is free and is nothing to do with us.
What you are buying
You are buying a guided walk: the services of a licensed guide for a stated period, at a stated meeting point.
You are not buying admission to Père Lachaise Cemetery. Entry to the cemetery is free, is administered by the Ville de Paris, and cannot be bought from us or from anybody else. Nothing in these terms should be read as giving you a right of entry, and nothing about your booking gives you access you would not otherwise have. We explain this at length.
We are an independent company and are not affiliated with the Ville de Paris or with the cemetery administration.
Booking and payment
A booking is confirmed when you receive a confirmation from us or from our booking provider, and not before. Payment is taken at the time of booking through our booking provider.
Prices are shown in euros and include all applicable taxes. The price of the small-group walk is per person; the price of the private walk is for the group.
Cancellation by you
Small-group walk: free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start time, for a full refund. inside 24 hours we cannot refund, because the guide has already been paid and the group has already been closed.
Private walk: free cancellation up to 48 hours before the start time, for a full refund. inside 48 hours we cannot refund — a private guide's day has been held for you.
Refunds are returned by the method of payment and are processed by our booking provider.
Cancellation by us
We may cancel a scheduled small-group walk if fewer than three people have booked. If we do, we will tell you at least 24 hours before the start time and refund you in full.
We may cancel any walk if the Ville de Paris closes the cemetery, which it does at short notice in high winds because the trees here are old and large. If that happens you may move to another date or take a full refund, whichever you prefer.
We walk in rain. Rain is not a reason for cancellation by either party.
Arriving late
Walks start at the advertised time because the cemetery closes at a fixed time and the route is planned to finish before clearing begins. If you arrive after the group has left we cannot hold the walk, and we cannot refund the booking. Please arrive ten minutes early.
Fitness, terrain and your own judgement
The walks cover roughly 2.5 kilometres on cobbles and packed earth, with gradients and several short flights of steps. We describe the terrain honestly on every tour page and we expect you to read it before booking.
You are responsible for deciding whether the walk is within your capabilities, and for telling us in advance about anything that affects that. If you tell us, we will give you an honest answer, and we will refund a booking rather than take you on a route that does not suit you.
You remain responsible for your own safety and for anyone under eighteen in your party.
Behaviour in the cemetery
Père Lachaise is a working cemetery in which funerals take place daily. Guides will stop and step aside for any ceremony, and we ask you to do the same.
The cemetery's own rules — no picnics, no bicycles, no running, no drones, no dogs other than assistance dogs, nothing left on graves that are not yours, and no touching the monuments — apply to everyone on the walk. A guide may end a participant's walk without refund for behaviour that is disrespectful to mourners, damaging to monuments, or unsafe.
Liability
We are liable for the proper performance of the service we have sold you. We are not liable for the condition of the cemetery, its opening hours, the closure of individual gates, the accessibility of individual graves, or anything else within the control of the Ville de Paris.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Accuracy of this website
We check visitor information — opening hours, gates, access notes — against the City of Paris and publish the date we retrieved it. The City changes these without notice and its own page is always the authority.
Division numbers are cross-checked against at least two independent sources. Where a location or an attribution is genuinely disputed by historians, we say so on the page rather than presenting one side as settled.
Complaints and governing law
If something goes wrong, tell your guide at the time if you can, and write to us afterwards. We would rather fix it than have it appear in a review.
These terms are governed by French law, and the French courts have jurisdiction. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
